What is my IP address?
The address websites see when you connect from this device and network, right now. We look it up, show it to you and keep nothing.

About IP addresses
- What is an IP address?
- A number that identifies your connection on the internet, so websites know where to send their replies. With IPv4, every device behind the same router usually shares one public address; with IPv6, each device typically gets its own.
- Why does my IP address change?
- Most home and mobile providers hand out addresses dynamically, so yours can change when your router restarts, when your phone reconnects to the mobile network, or simply after a while. Moving to a different network always changes it.
- Why does this page show my network and not my location?
- Because we only show what is reliable. The network an address belongs to is public routing information, while locations worked out from an IP address are often wrong by a city or more. Neither is needed to troubleshoot a connection, so we don't guess.
- I'm using a VPN. Why is the address different?
- A VPN, proxy or iCloud Private Relay sends your traffic through its own servers, so websites see their address instead of yours. If the network shown above belongs to your VPN provider, the VPN is doing its job.
- IPv4 or IPv6: which one am I using?
- Your connection may support both. This page shows the address your browser used to reach us; when both work, most devices prefer IPv6.
- Can my IP address be the reason a site won't load?
- Sometimes. Sites block address ranges they see abuse from, and some services turn away VPN and data-center networks. If a site answers our server but not you, run the connection test on its status page to narrow it down.
- Do you store my IP address?
- No. It is looked up, shown to you and forgotten: it isn't saved in our database, cache or rate limiter, and our web server writes no access log for this page.
